More than NakedRebecca Crown Hall, Jerusalem Theatre
Doris Uhlich (Austria)
Duration of performance: 60 minutes (no intermission)
This courageous performance, which caused ripples all over the world, was conceived by the Austrian choreographer Doris Uhlich, who urges us to “celebrate our bodies,” bare and free of all social inhibitions. Uhlich creates a unique choreographic world that resembles a playground where the naked body is seen, free of preconceived notions, in an entertaining and liberated way.
Twelve dancers on the stage — natural, human, and naked — show the more and less impressive aspects of their appearance and remove any possibility of provocation, asking us to look at the body as it is. With rare candor, they create a viewing experience that challenges the ideal of physical beauty as it is constantly presented to us. Embarrassment melts away in the utopian space that is created on the stage. Taking its place, via Uhlich’s own unique dance language, is the body that is the most beautiful — the body that is imperfect.
Since “More Than Naked” premiered at the 2013 ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna, it has been performed throughout Europe to rave reviews, and reaches the Israel Festival this year.

From the critics:
“What these bodies do has more to do with a game based on relaxed nakedness than with a numb provocation. It has wit, allows for discursive wrinkles, and gives one the feeling that cultural regulations are not written into eternity.” (Der Standard, 2013)Next Show >< Previous show
